How to Fall in Love With Your Home

Maybe you’ve just moved in. Maybe you’ve lived there for decades. Either way, there are times when we look around our homes and realise the spark just isn’t quite there anymore.
Reconnecting with your space doesn’t have to mean starting over; it's often about small, thoughtful shifts that bring clarity, comfort, and a renewed sense of ease.
So how do we reconnect with the place we spend so much of our lives in?
Make One Move at a Time
When we think about refreshing our homes, or even a full overhaul, it’s tempting to tackle everything at once. While considering the whole house can help with cohesion, doing it all on your own can quickly become overwhelming and stressful.
Instead, try focusing on one room at a time, or even one small nook. Turn your bed into a true sanctuary, or create a cosy reading corner in your living room. These smaller projects give you a sense of achievement and a space you can enjoy immediately, while gradually building momentum for the rest of your home.

Get Your Trinkets Out
Sometimes a home doesn't feel right simply because it doesn’t reflect the people who live there. With homewares so readily available, it’s easy to fill shelves with trendy pieces that look great in the shop, but don’t really say anything about you.
Family photos, travel souvenirs, or keepsakes from your childhood all add layers of meaning to a space. These personal touches help ground a home and make it feel lived-in, comforting and uniquely yours.
I spent some time doing this myself during the Christmas break after I found a box of bits that hadn’t been opened since we moved two years ago. It's so lovely to see what a difference this has made to even the smallest spaces in our home.
Get Into the Flow
Think about your daily routines. Is your home working with you or against you? Are you constantly doubling back and forth to complete the simplest of tasks?
It’s not something that is often considered as it’s not something we necessarily see the effects of but poor flow within your home can quietly drain your energy before the day has even begun. By rethinking your room layouts, storage, or how your rooms are used, everyday tasks can feel smoother and far less cumbersome. A home that flows well supports you, rather than slowing you down.
Sometimes falling in love with your home doesn’t require a full renovation, just a fresh perspective. By taking it one step at a time, making sure it feels like you and ensuring your space is guiding your day rather than getting in your way you will soon have a home that you can’t wait to spend time with. If you ever feel really stuck, a trained eye can often see possibilities that are hard to spot when you live in a space every day.
